Important note: These handouts are designed to go with a Measurement (Distance and Length) Video which is currently located on VIMEO, but can also be used alone.

These one page worksheets cover converting distance and length. There is one worksheet for the USA Customary System of Measurement and one for the Metric System. The drawing is the same but the questions and answers are different.

USA Customary System of Measurement

This art worksheet includes word problems on distance. Students use a distant chart in kilometers to answer various questions, and convert kilometers to miles or miles to kilometers.

Important note: To shade the picture correctly students must use 1 kilometer = 0.62 miles when converting.

Map Scaling (planets) - Level 1

This one page worksheet reviews map scaling. Students use the scale to determine the approximate distance each planet is from the sun.

Helpful idea: Students might not be able to visualize the size of our solar system and how vast it truly is. Have them calculate how long it would take to travel these distances using the speed of a car or bicycle. Show the time in hours, days, and years for each planet.
