Multiplication using Estimation

Helpful hint: When you're multiplying by multiples of 10 you can multiply the counting numbers and then add the 0's to the final answer. Example: 30 x 50 can be solved by multiplying the 3 and 5, and then adding the two zeros to the 15. Answer: 1,500.

Division using Estimation

This one page worksheet divides by one and two digit numbers to introduce estimation.

Helpful hint: As the numbers get bigger it helps to refer to the numbers as tens. Example: 718 ÷ 92 can be estimated to 720 ÷ 90, which means you have 72 tens ÷ 9 tens or 72 ÷ 9 = 8. So 718 ÷ 92 is about 8.
